Dr. Puyat has done research on the gaps in BC’s mental health system; he found cost to be one of the barriers to accessing care because of shortfalls in the coverage provided by the B.C.’s healthcare system.

More than two-thirds of CVD risk in OA linked to NSAID use

CHÉOS Director Dr. Aslam Anis and fellow researchers estimated the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), a key component of treatment for osteoarthritis, on the relationship between the osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease. They found that NSAIDs significantly increase the risk of congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, and stroke in those with osteoarthritis. Dr. Anis spoke about his research in a press release at the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology and several news outlets including HealioMedical Xpress, News-Medical.Net, and Rheumatology Advisor reported on the findings.
