Data-driven, patient-powered Colorectal Cancer Outcomes Research (CCOR)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide and accounts for 13% of all cancers in Canada. While age is an established risk factor, with a marked onset of the disease after the age of 50 years, consistent recent evidence has shown an increasing risk of young-onset colorectal cancer (yCRC), which is defined as CRC diagnosed in individuals who are under 50 years of age. This changing epidemiology of CRC necessitates the understanding of outcomes for yCRC patients in light of uncertainty regarding best practices.
This Work in Progress Seminar will journey through the Colorectal Cancer Outcomes Research (CCOR) program, which is inspired by lived experience, driven by data from various sources (including administrative health databases in B.C., prospectively collected survey data, and open source social media data), and powered by a community of colorectal cancer patient “thrivers”.
