How behavioural insights and behavioural science can be applied to health systems and public health
This talk will cover a general introduction to behavioural insights (BI) and then set out examples of BI as applied to health systems and public health, covering antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and COVID-19 vaccination uptake. Specifically, we will cover how behavioural science-informed tactics including descriptive social norms and pro-social messaging can decrease unnecessary antibiotic prescription and increase vaccine confidence.
The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) started in the UK Government Cabinet Office in 2010 and is now an independent organization working with governments, health authorities and nonprofits around the world. It set up a Canadian office in Toronto in 2019. To date, BIT has run more than 500 randomized trials across a wide range of policy domains and advised on hundreds more.
