She is a PhD candidate in the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Experimental Medicine program and is studying polypharmacy in frail elders. A full-service family physician in Vancouver, she provides nursing home care at St. Vincent’s Langara. Since January 2010, she has been the Associate Head of Providence Health Care’s Department of Family and Community Medicine and works with clinical and operations colleagues to improve acute care services and their interface with the community. Dr. McCracken supervises and mentors the 30 family medicine residents in the St. Paul’s Family Practice residency site during their second-year research projects. She chose medicine as a second career after ten years working in Human Resources for high tech companies and has an undergraduate degree in Commerce from the University of Alberta. Dr. McCracken completed medical school at the University of Calgary and her Family Practice residency at St. Paul’s Hospital.
