Collaborative Research

CHÉOS Scientists collaborate with, and contribute to, a number of research organizations and projects, both within Providence Health Care and externally.

Due to our size and expertise, we support over 90 per cent of units and programs at Providence Health Care (PHC) with the goal of improving care for all of PHC’s Populations of Emphasis. Over half of our investigators are clinician-scientists practicing at PHC.

Collaborations within Providence Health Care

We provide substantial and integral administrative and logistical support to several organizations at PHC.

CHÉOS Scientist Dr. Karin Humphries is the Scientific Director of the B.C. Centre for Improved Cardiovascular Health, where Dr. Devin Harris functions as a Clinical Lead. A CHÉOS Scientist and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC, Dr. Josie Geller, is the Director of Research at PHC’s Eating Disorders Program.

Physicians and CHÉOS Scientists Drs. Eric Grafstein, Brian Grunau, Garth Hunte, and Robert Stenstrom all serve the St. Paul’s Hospital Emergency Department as emergency physicians.

Drs. Carl Brown, P. Terry Phang, and Manoj Raval are all colorectal surgeons in the Colorectal Surgery Program at St. Paul’s Hospital, renowned throughout the province for its cutting-edge technologies and research.

Dr. Martha Mackay has worked with the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (HLI), housed at St. Paul’s, on several projects. Also situated within PHC is the National Centre of the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN), a national clinical trials network funded by CIHR and jointly sponsored by UBC and PHC. CHÉOS Director Dr. Aslam Anis serves as the National Director of the CTN.

Dr. Amy Salmon is the Developmental Evaluator for the B.C. Integrated Youth Services Initiative (BC-IYSI), started by CHÉOS’ Dr. Steve Mathias, and Dr. Chris Richardson is lending his expertise to the BC-IYSI to assist with developing and implementing their research strategies.
